How to Add Learner Memorial to Your 1.9.6 Client

NOT FOR ANDROID! This is not doable on the Android client. Linux/Windows/Mac clients should work fine.

This is a permitted client "hack" - The only thing this does is add the statue to the IP spider cave. It provides nothing that would constitute a cheat.

For 1.9.6 only - The statue will be in the client by default in future client releases.

Instructions - Follow Carefully!

  1. Download this zip file: learnermemorial.zip and extract it. There are 3 files in the zip.
  2. Locate where your EL personal logs and settings get saved on your computer. You can see this by logging into the client.
Look for the line "Your personal settings and logs will be saved in". There will be a path where the yellow box is after that.
Go to this location in your file manager on your computer.
Then go up one directory so you're not in the server name folder (probably "main").
So if it said /home/yourname/.elc/main/, you'd want to go to /home/yourname/.elc/ instead.
  3. Create a folder named "updates". Go into updates, and create a folder named "1_9_6". Go into that folder.
(You may have already done this if you installed unofficial tab maps.)
  4. In 1_9_6, create a "maps" folder, and a "3dobjects" folder. (You'll already have the "maps" folder if you installed unoff tab maps.)
  5. Take the map6nf_cave.elm.gz file from the zip and place it in the /maps/ subdirectory.
  6. Take the other 2 files (learner_memorial.e3d and .dds) and place them in the /3dobjects/ subdirectory.
  7. Close your EL client(s) if any are open. Log in, and head to the Isla Prima spider cave to see it.

They should look like this (in Linux, should be similar in Win/Mac):

Issues

I go to the spider cave and nothing has changed.
You did not place the map6nf_cave.elm.gz file in the correct location, so you're still seeing the original 1.9.6 file.
There's a black square that says "bad object" in red where the statue should be.
You did not place the learner_memorial.e3d file in the correct directory. Make sure it is in /3dobjects/.
The statue is there, but it's white, like a ghost.
You somehow managed to put learner_memorial.e3d in the correct directory, but did not put learner_memorial.dds in the same directory. Make sure both files are in /3dobjects/.
